Former MK Hanegbi: Israel Should Consider Iran Strike

Former MK Tzachi Hanegbi said on Friday that the Israeli government should seriously examine the option of attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities.

In an interview on Radio Tel Aviv Hanegbi, formerly the chairman of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that the coming year will be the year in which to make a decision regarding an attack on Iran and said, “The possibility of a military attack should seriously be considered.”

Hanegbi said that he believes the West is unlikely to slap significant sanctions on Iran that would lead the Islamic Republic to give up its nuclear program, meaning Israel will have to deal with the Iranian issue alone.

“The price Israel will ultimately pay for an attack on Iran is much lower that the horrific scenarios which have been painted,” he said.

Regarding a possible American attack on Iran, Hanegbi said that he believes the U.S. will refrain from attacking the Islamic Republic. He was also asked about the latest escalation in rocket attacks coming from Gaza and said that in the end Israel will have no choice but other than launching a military operation in Gaza.

Hanegbi made similar comments last August when the situation in the south escalated, saying that “Israel must destroy the Iranian kingdom in southern Israel. If it does not happen now it will happen in another month or two.”
